Squirrels adopt an abandoned baby if its Parents are gone

Nature doesn’t always follow the ruthless “survival of the fittest” code. Scientists have observed squirrels caring for abandoned young. However, adult squirrels are much more likely to do this if the abandoned baby squirrels are closely related to them. Orphan squirrels will be adopted by other adult squirrels if their parents have died or aren’t able to care for them. Squirrels are among the most solitary animals, having little to do with one another, so the adoption of a foundling struck Gorrell as an anomaly.
